Oil Booms

Dunlop Greengate worked with the oil industry to develop a material suitable for the manufacture of oil booms. This current material used is now based on a polyurethane coated fabric. The material has the requisite oil, weather, ozone and UV resistance combined with high tear strength to withstand the rigours of this application.

Bund Liners

Land contamination is always a problem in areas of oil and chemical storage. Dunlop Greengate have developed a polyurethane coated fabric for use as a bund liner. The bund is designed such that it is can contain the contents of the chemical/oil being stored. The bund liner acts as a barrier to prevent seepage from the bund into the adjacent land, therefore avoiding contamination of the soil. Polyurethane is chosen as the coating because it provides a tough abrasion resistant barrier which has excellent low temperature performance and it does not support fungal growth, combined with the oil resistance needed for such an application.

Primary and Secondary Seals

Dunlop Greengate manufacture polyurethane coated fabric for use in fuel storage tanks. These materials are fabricated into primary and secondary seals which provide a seal between the walls and floating roof of fuel storage tanks. Air fuel mixtures are very explosive. In order to minimise the explosion risk, the fumes are contained by designing a tank roof which floats on the surface of the fuel. The seal between the wall and roof of the tank is manufactured from polyurethane coated fabric. Dunlop Greengate supply material to manufacture such seals. The coated fabric is designed to withstand contact with the fuel, have sufficient tear strength to avoid damage, yet the correct degree of flexibility to achieve a seal to prevent fumes from escaping into the environment.
